The castle isn’t used much, a token force is usually here. Mostly to keep squatters from moving in.
The military are armed and trained, and they do patrol the town.
Bad times are still remembered. It is just that Meldale isn’t very prepared for troubles.
The forces vary from year to year. Sometimes month to month.
